“Colores Andinos” Plaza de Mercado El Restrepo, Bogotá, Colombia, 2021
There is no comparable adventure to exploring a local market when traveling. It can be one of the best ways to get a taste of local culture and the local street food. You will even discover things about shopping you did not know existed – like getting lost in a maze of shops while trying to find the perfect papaya or waking up beforedawn to watch fishermen bid on the biggest snapper. Walking through colorful stalls beats weighing the pros and cons of express shipping any day. Today when someone mentions the word marketplace, what first comes to mind is shopify or amazon. That means that the marketplace as we knew it is fast becoming extinct.
Through my paintings, you will dive in and fully immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of daily Colombian culture, absorbing the unique sights, smells, and sounds that surround you along the way. The perfect chance to interact with other human beings, sample exotic fruits, learn about regional traditions and customs, and interact with farmers by supporting the local economy.
